How We Started
Built by people who love the craft.
Detroit Labs was founded in 2011 by three founders who believed the city was exactly the right place to build a different kind of software company. A Midwest work ethic. Deep engineering roots. A community that values craft over flash. It felt like the right foundation for a team that wanted to do the work well and do right by the people they worked with.
What started as a small group with a big conviction has grown into a team that has shipped products for some of the most recognized brands in the country. That growth didn't happen by accident. It happened because we stayed focused on the things that matter: asking the right questions, building with care, and showing up like partners at every stage.
From the beginning, we believed in investing in the city that built us. We've trained developers from the Detroit area, put them to work building real things alongside our team, and looked for ways to give back to the community that gave us our start. That spirit hasn't changed.
