How we helped Lineage Logistics turn fragmented data into a scalable insights platform.

Lineage Logistics is the world’s largest refrigerated warehousing company, operating over 450 facilities across 18 countries. With thousands of employees and millions of data points, they needed a better way to see what was happening across their network—operationally, financially, and logistically. They came to Detroit Labs to bring that visibility to life.

The Challenge

Lineage had no shortage of data. But it was scattered across systems, teams, and tools. Leaders couldn’t easily get a clear view of performance across warehouses. They needed a single place to track labor efficiency, safety incidents, throughput, and other key metrics—at both the facility and enterprise level.

The stakes were high: better visibility meant faster decisions, less waste, and fewer surprises.

The Vision

Lineage envisioned a reporting tool that could:

  • Aggregate data across labor, finance, safety, and operations

  • Let users filter by region, facility, or company-wide

  • Be intuitive enough for everyone—from execs to new hires

  • Scale with their fast-growing footprint

The goal wasn’t just another dashboard. It was a platform that could grow with the business and make data part of everyday decisions.

The Process

From the start, we worked side-by-side with Lineage’s internal teams—product managers, analysts, designers, and engineers—to define what the platform needed to deliver. Together, we mapped out core business metrics and prioritized the features that would have the most immediate impact. We launched early with a UI built from off-the-shelf components to move quickly and validate ideas in real-world use. That early momentum gave us the space to evolve toward a fully custom design system.

As the platform matured, we introduced Klondike, a scalable design system tailored to Lineage’s needs. It included accessible color palettes, reusable interface components, and data visualization patterns designed to make insights easier to act on—no matter the user’s role or technical comfort level. This level of clarity and flexibility was critical for a company operating over 480 facilities across 18 countries, managing more than 2.9 billion cubic feet of cold storage. 

The Solution

The final product, metricsOne, is a responsive web app that consolidates Lineage’s operational, financial, labor, and safety data into a single, easy-to-use platform. It allows users to filter and explore metrics by facility, region, or across the entire company. Whether an executive is reviewing high-level performance trends or a project manager is preparing for a site visit, the data is there—clear, contextual, and actionable.

The platform has become deeply embedded in day-to-day operations, used across finance, ops, and planning to make better decisions faster. It plays a key role in how Lineage reduces food waste, manages labor costs, and optimizes warehouse operations. In fact, Lineage’s broader data initiatives have driven real-world outcomes—like cutting energy intensity by 32% and helping customers reduce transportation costs by up to 15%. MetricsOne now supports that level of efficiency at scale, giving teams the insights they need to continue driving measurable improvements. Behind the scenes, it’s powered by a scalable architecture ready to grow alongside Lineage’s expanding global network.
