Events

We love hosting community events in our commons area at our Detroit and Ann Arbor headquarters. Recurring events we host each month are listed below. For non-profit events that we are able to host, we do not charge a rental fee. However the events do need to be in-line with the interests and values of Detroit Labs: technology, design, innovation, community building, inclusiveness, and creativity, and setup, teardown, and cleanup are all the responsibilities of the event organizer. All events must also have a Detroit Labs team member sponsor who is present for the event, and securing that sponsor is also the responsibility of the event organizer.

Facilities

Detroit: our commons area features 5,000 square feet of configurable space. We have a bleacher setup that seats forty (although we don’t recommend that for multi-hour seating, it’s killer on the back), and chairs and tables that can be setup however you want. There is a full kitchen with sink, prep area, refrigerator, and freezer space. Events should bring their own dishes and utensils and cups as we have some, but not enough to handle a random crowd. There isn’t an oven, sorry.

For A/V we have multiple flat screen TVs on rollable stands with Apple TV, Chromebox, and direct hookup options for presentation purposes.

Guest wifi is available to all, and there is network access for Hangouts, Skype, and the like.

Your event will need to secure a door person to let people into our Detroit building and up to our space; there is no public access to the building and access is secured several ways. You provide the volunteer and we’ll assist with the logistics on that.

Ann Arbor: our Ann Arbor office features configurable space for 20-30 attendees, smack in the middle of the UM action at State Street and Liberty. Amenities are more limited at the Ann Arbor office, but obviously food options are mind-bogglingly good in the area and perhaps best of all, we have the capability to host breakfast, midday, lunch, and afternoon events in Ann Arbor, as well as traditional after-hours. This is particularly exciting for event planners looking for ways to create a more inclusive and diverse attendee list; offering a safe space during the day allows you to welcome those of us with after-work responsibilities to your community.

Flat screen TVs for presentation and wifi access for all are also available at our Ann Arbor office.
